Well, after writing yesterday's blog I started thinking about how annoyed I was with President Obama for the whole offshore drilling thing and how annoyed I still am that the Democrats didn't get a public option included on the health care reform bill. I did a lot of thinking, and I reached some conclusions. I think I'm going to take a break from supporting progressive causes for a while. I'm just fed up. In fact, I think I need to start rethinking my entire belief system. I might explore this whole Tea Party thing.
I know, I know. I didn't fool anybody, did I?
Well, truth be told, the offshore drilling thing and the lack of a public option do really annoy me, but the Democratic Party is definitely still the only game in town if you want to support a party that has any realistic hope of implementing plans that are in keeping with progressive ideals. Sometimes I wish this wasn't the case (I definitely felt this way while I watched the Democrats drag their feet and waste time trying to make nice with obstinate Republicans on health care reform throughout the fall and winter), but the conservatives are really powerful right now, and progressives don't really stand any chance of holding their own unless they remain at least as cohesive as they currently are under Democratic leadership.
Anyhoo, happy April Fool's Day!
I don't have much time for posting today, but if I get a chance, I'll put something up later.
