Update

Hi! How's everyone?

We had a good weekend.

As usual, Mom and Dad had the kids on Thursday.  Raylan was congested and took like a two and a half hour nap on Thursday (which is totally unusual for him), so we decided to keep him home from school on Friday, because we thought he was getting sick.

Well, I had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so Mom came back over and hung out with Raylan for a little while.    The three of us went out for pizza at Cane Rosso for lunch.  It was fun!  We had a good time.  Aside from having a bit of a scratchy voice and coughing every once in a while, Raylan seemed fine.

know how to ride a pig
Mom took off after lunch.  I tried to play some quiet stuff with Raylan in the house so he could get some rest (we made it through a game of checkers and part of a game of chess and built some forts).  By the mid afternoon he was restless and wanted to burn some energy off, though.  We went on a bike ride, and we rode to Central Market to get some gelato.

Dad, I think lots of kids get to buy
different kinds of gelato on the same trip...

Riding to the park.

Maybe we rode a little too far.
Friday night we had dinner at home.  After the kids were in bed I played guitar in the garage for a while.

On Saturday we went to Kerbey Lane for breakfast.  We initially planned to go to the park after that, but the kids wanted to play at our house, so we hung out and played in the yard during the morning, instead.

In the afternoon I took the kids to Garrison Park for a while.  Raylan did a good job on the monkey bars, and Kiddo found some kids her own age to play with.

Also, while we were there, an ice cream truck stopped by.  The was sort of a big deal.  Raylan has seen ice cream trucks on TV, and we have heard them wandering around our neighborhood, but they never seem to come down our street.  We've never actually been to one before.  Having heard the nearby music, we've even thought they were going to drive by our house, and we stood out in our front yard waiting for one to appear while clutching out money.  But sadly and slowly the music always faded away...
Not this time!  Kind of weird that the kids first got to go to an ice cream truck in February, but whatever.

It's everything I imagined it would be...
On Sunday morning we got up and I went to pick up the groceries.  The kids wanted to go to the store, so the three of us piled into the Kia Sorento, and off we went.

They were strangely captivated by the pickles
Sunday morning we took the kids to Joslin.

This, you may be able to tell, is Raylan's rocket ship.
Current destination:  Mars.
Sunday afternoon Amy went to a little wine tasting at Mandy's house.  Afterwards the family ate dinner.  Then Frank came over and we played acoustic guitars in the garage.  It was some serious rockin'.

And that was the weekend!  Hope everyone had a good one.

Update

Hi!  Our weekend was good!
Jean, Amy's mom, was in town over the weekend (Thursday through Sunday), so it was good to see her and get a chance to hang out.  The kids were super excited to have Nana visit!  She's like a celebrity when she comes to our house.  Kiddo, who was supposed to be asleep, literally leaped to her feet and squealed out "Nana!" when Jean poked her head in her bedroom.

Friday was Valentine's Day.  The kids had parties at school, and Amy and Jean went to the school to do a craft with them and hang out for their parties.

Nana's back!
Friday night the five of us went to La Posada for dinner and had a nice time.

On Saturday Amy and Jean ran around and took care of some stuff in the morning while I took the kids to Hoppin House for Truett's birthday party.  The kids had a blast, and I had a nice time talking to Mary, Chad, Katarina, and some of the other parents.

I thought Kiddo would be afraid of the foam pit.
I was wrong.

Saturday afternoon we played around at the house, mostly.

Saturday evening my parents came over and took the kids out to dinner and babysat them while Amy, Jean, and I went out for dinner.  We went to Cypress Grill, and we had a really nice time.  The food was great.

So much grandparent love for these kids!
On Sunday we mostly just played around.  Amy and Jean went for a run, and I played with the kids at the house.  Amy and I assembled a new cantilever umbrella that we got for the back yard.  It wasn't a huge job, but it did involve putting around 200 lbs. of sand into the base of the thing.

Jean left to head back to Arizona on Sunday evening.  After getting the kids showered and fed, I headed off to band practice.
We had a pretty good practice.  I had a hard time dialing in the sound on my 12 string for some reason, but that happens sometimes...

Monday was President's Day, so we had the day off.  The morning was warm, humid, and rainy.  We took the Kids up to Mt. Playmore so they could work their wiggles out.  They had a lot of fun.

In the afternoon we got groceries and mostly just hung out around the house.  Amy grilled some burgers and veggies for dinner.  Good stuff.

And that was out three day weekend!

Thanks to Jean for coming out!  It was good to see you!

Update

Howdy! We've been busy!

Last Monday night Amy, Frank, and I went to see Wolf Parade at the Mohawk with Land of Talk opening for them.  Both bands were good!  The show ended surprisingly early (maybe due to noise ordinances at downtown outdoor venues on weeknights?), but that was kind of great because we got to rock AND get some sleep.

Friday was Amy's birthday!  Shelly got her a cookie cake at work, congratulating her for being every bit the stable genius that Donald Trump has turned out to be!

Friday night we ate pizza and hung out at the house (we did the more grow-up birthday dinner the week before).

On Saturday my parents had us out to their house for a birthday dinner for Amy.  Ryan, Jamie, and Susan came out, as well.  We had a really nice afternoon and evening hanging out with the family!

Sunday night I went to band practice and we rocked out.  We sounded pretty good.  I enjoyed it.

Monday night we had another concert!  Mom and Dad took the kids for both of these concerts, so HUGE THANKS to them for doing that!

Monday night's concert was the New Pornographers with Diane Coffee at Emo's.
I had never heard Diane Coffee before, but I enjoyed them.  Lots of energy.

We've seen the New Pornographers before, but I felt like this was one of the best shows I've seen by them.  The sound was really good, and they played really well.

And that's the update!  I hope everyone is doing well!

We're almost to spring!

Update

Hi! Hope everyone had a good time on their Super Bowl weekend!
We didn't watch the Super Bowl, but we had a good time.

On Friday night we let Raylan decide what we were doing for dinner.  He said that he wanted to go to Doc's so he could eat a hamburger, play on the playground, and get frozen yogurt afterward.  I met Amy and the kids there after work.  We checked all of Raylan's boxes, and had a nice dinner.

On Saturday we mostly played around the house in the morning.  In the afternoon I took Raylan and Kiddo to Diego's birthday party.  Apparently Raylan remembered Diego's party from last year, because as soon as I told him where we were going he asked in there would be a pinata.
And there was a pinata!
Ruben and Miguel threw a nice party, and the kids had a lot of fun.  I had fun, too!

Saturday night Amy and I got a sitter went out for an Amy birthday dinner at Launderette.  I guess it's been open for a little while, but it's still relatively new.  Upscale American cuisine.
Ashli, a beloved former teacher of Kiddo's, watched the kids.  We don't get to go out to dinner as often these days at nicer restaurants, so it was a nice change of pace to go on a nice dinner date.  The food was great, and it was really nice to spend the evening with Amy.

We had a very nice meal.  I really enjoyed it!

On Sunday morning Amy took Kiddo for a job in the stroller.  Raylan and I went on a bike ride.  I sort of tricked him into going on a shopping run to Kohl's.  But in the end he tricked me into buying him some walkie-talkies.  So I guess it all worked out.

sometimes you have to literally stop and smell

Sunday afternoon the kids ran in sprinkler in the yard.  It was like 80 degrees, and Raylan kept asking about using his kiddie pool or going to the pool, but it was February 2nd, and I couldn't wrap my head around starting pool season already.

Sunday evening, since no one in our house cared about the Super Bowl, we had our first ever family movie night.  We let Raylan picked the movie, and he picked Frozen.  We offered him several choices, but his friend, Dorothy, talks about Frozen a lot, so he wanted to see it.  I had never seen it before, so now I can check that one off the list.
Movie night was fun!  We had popcorn and chips and queso.
The kids were pretty good for most of the movie, but got a little squirmy in like the last 15 or 20 minutes.  They seemed to enjoy it, though.

movie night!

And that was the weekend!
The weather was beautiful.  Very spring-like.
It was a good one.
