Bill White for Governor- Rally on Sunday

Well, running as a Democrat for governor in Texas has seemed like an almost impossibly uphill battle for a long time now, but I'm hoping that we can make some inroads in the next Texas gubernatorial election. As many of you have heard by now, Bill White is looking like he stand a pretty good chance of being the next big Democratic hopeful for the Texas governor's office. White has managed to get himself elected twice as mayor of Houston, with margins of 86% and 91%. My parents, who live down in the Houston area and who aren't really strongly aligned in terms of political parties, have both been really impressed by Bill White and his work. And by almost all accounts, White has had a very impressive record while serving as mayor of Houston. Job growth has been at record levels under his terms, crime has dropped, property taxes have been cut, traffic congestion has eased, services have been expanded (from parks to libraries to health clinics), and the Houston Chronicle has praised White for steering the city through some difficult finanical times, as well as helping it to survive and thrive in the wake of hurricane damage and following the influx of refugees after Hurrican Katrina.
So, I think there must be something to this Bill White guy. Houston tends to lean toward the conservative side, so it sort of says something in my mind when they rally behind and support a Democrat so strongly (mostly I think it says that White is pretty pragmatic and just focuses on getting results as opposed to playing a lot of politics).
Anyway, my main point in writing this today is to point out that White sounds like a good guy, and he's having a rally tomorrow (Sunday, December 6th) at Scholtz Garten here in Austin (1607 San Jacinto Blvd.) from 5:00 til 7:00.
You might want to go check it out and see what you think of Bill White!
